Fisker Karma for your trouble. At my coworker's encouragement, I picked up the 20-DVD Robotech set. It was a Woot! deal for $30. He's watched it before and really enjoyed it, I've never seen it before. I guess we'll have to see how good my tolerance of early '80s anime dubs are.

Oh yeah, I loved watching that growing up. If you want some real fun, watch the three animes they hacked together into Robotech and see what they changed, and what got left on the cutting room floor.

Robotech holds up much better than most 80s cartoons. I remember about 10 years ago I found my old box of VHS tapes and watched all three series with my kids, they got into it too. Counting my parents than makes 3 generations of my family that's a fan of Harmony Gold's take on Frankenstein's monster.

One of my favorite things growing up. Right up there with Star Wars.

I tried watching it not long ago, but it made zero sense. In the few episodes I watched, literally every decision made by every character made me wonder what they were on.
I'm guessing there was alot lost in translation, and I guess the Japanese version was hacked up pretty bad on the way over.

If you really pay attention to the story you will realize how much this show teaches you about war and the soldiers who then have to go to the home front. It has some great characters and scenes that just rip you up and total FUCK YEAH moments. There are still parts I totally cheer at while watching and that one scene that still makes me cry. You will know it when you see it.

I remember watching the movie, which was a edited together version of the show. I remember this scene where a valkyrie was firing all its missiles ( which was awesome! ) then there was a flash across the screen really quick.. me and my friends wondered if the tape was messed up, re rewound frame by frame, that's when it came up... A budwiser label drawn for the one frame. Blew our minds.

I remember seeing some loose episodes the British Sky channel in late 80's. Some episodes seemed pretty violent back then.
This show was actually edited from three different Japanese shows so there isn't Japanese language episodes existing. I guess some episodes had still something left from the original plot.

WOW that is a crazy deal. You'll enjoy Robotech, it holds up well. I dunno if that box set has the Invid saga, but hopefully it does.
